ARCHIVE: WORKS ON SILK
These are fabric ‘quilts’, but little traditional quilting exists. First I sew or ‘piece’ painted and dyed fabric, slash these pieces into strips, then sew together and reconfigure in multiple iterations. Layers are fused onto silk. Many of the final edges are raw. Hand stitched linear elements unify the work.
ARCHIVE: SMALL WORK
These are miniature ‘quilts’. They are studies, thoughts, melodies, using fabric scraps from larger work. The process is similar to the larger works on silk. Hand dyed and painted silk is pieced and slashed, then fused onto a silk background. Stitches are added to unify the work. Some of the stitches melt into painted areas.
